Beautiful Afghanite Crystal on Matrix Sar-e Sang, Koksha Valley, Khash & Kuran Wa Munjan District, Badakhshan, Afghanistan. Afghanite is a rare and coveted mineral with a striking blue color, first identified in 1968. With a very close resemblance to Lazurite, and occurring together in the same deposits, it is distinguished by its unique crystal habit. Named after it's the most significant locality in northern Afghanistan.
This particular piece of Afghanite exhibits long elongated hexagonal well-formed pointed terminated crystal which standing tall on a matrix in combination with nice detailed shiny Pyrite crystals and small detailed white albite on top termination of the crystal creating an amazing contrast of multi-colors. Crystal has excellent transparency and vibrant blue color with a beautiful vitreous luster. Indeed a very aesthetic and beautiful piece from its type locality in Afghanistan.
